Day 5 Activity 3: Own Choice
For this activity, please choose one person (a changemaker) and read all about them.
On your blog, provide us with:
- The name of the person
- A description of the work they do/have done
- An explanation of how they/their work has had an impact on the lives of others
Sir Edmond Hillary
Sir Edmond Hillary was born in 1919 and was the first person to ever climb Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world, in 1953. After years of climbing and practising, it took him just seven weeks to reach the summit. Due to the weather caving in, he only spent 15 minutes up the top to take lots of photos and to have a rest.
But that's not all sir Edmond Hillary did. He developed a strong connection with the Nepalese people and wanted to help them. Through the Himalayan Trust New Zealand, he devoted most of his life to helping the people of Nepal. He did this by building schools, hospitals, bridges, an airstrip, and much more.
The people of Nepal are forever grateful for his help. With his help, the children were able to get an education which, in turn, would lead them to make educated decisions for the villages. The hospitals helped to heal the weak and ill, and the bridges made transport to remote areas possible.
Hi Elsie
ReplyDeleteI really like that you have chosen Sir Edmund Hillary to talk about. He really is a great New Zealander. What an honour it must still be for his family seeing him on our $5 note.
Remember when you are looking for information on people you need to retell the information that you find out in your own words. It is really important that you don't copy and paste the information from the internet. This is called plagiarism.
I know it is difficult sometimes but you could always try putting your information in bullet points or just simple sentences of your own.
If you have taken this from the internet I would really like you to have a go at putting this into your own words then I can award you full points for this activity.
Thanks Elsie
Allie :)
